Jeni created this series of watercolors for the Jeni & Billy album "Heart of the Mountain – 200 Years of an Appalachian Family." You will receive 15 postcards, 3 cards of each of the five designs. One to keep, one to send, and one just because.
The characters Jeni has drawn are her ancestors from the Southwest Virginia coalfields:
Baby Charley was struck by lightning twice and survived and is mentioned in the song "Aunt Erma."
Lonzo Hilton & Lottie Clay on their wedding day – relatives of Jeni's great-grandmother, Narcie. Their photograph is on the cover of the "Heart of the Mountain" CD. Jeni always loved that though they'd just been married, they resisted holding hands in their wedding photograph.
Squire J. Rufus & Ella Smith – Jeni's great-great-grandparents. John Rufus Smith was Justice of the Peace of Tazewell County and killed in the line of duty in May 1936. Susie Ella could cure babies of thrush by breathing into their mouths.
Ran Whitt, Edith Smith, and Jack Smith. Edith Smith is Jeni's great Aunt and the inspiration for her song "Sweetness Keen as Pain." These cousins are standing in front of the windcharger built by Jeni's great-grandfather, Avery Smith. She sings about the windcharger in the song "Polishing Stars."
Dolly is the final postcard and represents a china doll handed down through Jeni's family.
Each postcard has a watercolor landscape wash on the back and a bird where a stamp might go.
Each card measures 5 7/8 x 4 1/8 in (15 x 10 1/2 cm).
